Hydronic Heating at Adobe Home

The house is currently heated hydronically with a water boiler, while the hot water for household use is heated by a water heater. I believe they are two separate systems. I want to adapt this system to your SOLAR/Direct system, using the solar panels for the anti-freeze and the Polaris for both heating and household hot water. I’m not certain how much of the current infrastructure can or should remain, but it would be nice to use it if possible without compromising the effectiveness of the new.

Main Living Areas

 

  • Living Room: 13 ft × 26.67 ft = 346.67 sq ft

  • Master Bedroom: 20 ft × 14.29 ft = 285.83 sq ft

  • BR 01: 12.80 ft × 12.69 ft = 162.43 sq ft

  • BR 02: 10.33 ft × 12.5 ft = 129.17 sq ft

  • Kitchen: 14.92 ft × 20.42 ft = 304.54 sq ft

  • Office: 12.25 ft × 10.14 ft = 124.16 sq ft

The boiler has the current manifold attached to it:

Currently, all piping is copper. The only rooms with pipes still attached to the floor’s surface are the living room and hallway. The living room has pipes laid out every 2 feet, while the hallway has them in a narrow track, which leads me to believe they are primarily for transporting water from one zone to another.

The other rooms have heaters, and the copper piping has simply been swept to the side and run through ugly baseboard contraptions, but they work in the same system.

There are currently thermostats (zones) in two of the three bedrooms, the dining room, living room, kitchen, and office (6 “zones”). I want to add the 3rd bedroom (thus 7 zones).

Is that overkill? The only reason I mention it is that there are already thermostats there.

Clearly the boiler and old heater need to be taken out. I need to lay the PEX pipes in each room, either using the current manifolds or your newer ones. (Are boiler manifolds adaptable to a new heater?).
