Rob Tate|PORTFOLIO

Stories at the crossroads of culture, courage, and total chaos

  • ob Tate is an award-winning storyteller with 20+ years of experience producing, directing, shooting, and editing high-impact, long-form

and short-form documentaries, journalistic series, television, and social media content.

Known for his creative vision, precision editing, and an ability to translate complex topics into compelling, accessible stories, Rob's portfolio spans major networks, international broadcasters, streaming services, and theatrical releases.

Along the way he’s picked up an Emmy, an International Documentary Association Award, a Cine Golden Eagle, a New York Festival Award, multiple Telly and Taste Awards, and a James Beard Award — mostly for following humans making their mark on architecture, health, science, food, fashion, and otherwise rising to the occasion of their own lives.

    HAPPY CLOTHES:
    a film about Patricia Field
    Greenwich/ Zero Point Zero Production
    Feature documentary
    Editor
    • Collaborated w/ director, Michael Selditch, on overall structure incorporating about 100 hours of new footage and 200 hours of archival footage culled from raw, personal, journalistic, and historical sources to tell a story that spans 80 years

    • Researched several characters that were important friends and influencers in Ms. Field’s life

    • Created an editorial style called “Story by Proxy” in which anecdotes were told through a deliberate misuse of footage (for example: using shots from The Devil Wears Prada to tell a true story that happened between Meryl Streep and Ms. Field)

    • Scored the entire feature using primarily stems from music library, creating a mix of sounds that often differed greatly from the original mixes
